TCA congratulates the members of the Congressional Caucus on Turkey and Turkish Americans (Turkey Caucus) who won re-election last week and recognizes the lasting contributions of those members who will not be returning.
We are especially proud that all four co-chairs of the Turkey Caucus, Rep. Ed Whitfield (R-KY), Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN), Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC) and Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) were re-elected with large margins. Please click here for full election results.
"We congratulate those members who won re-election and we are certain that the upcoming 113th Congress will see the Caucus as an opportunity to engage Turkey, one of the United States' closest allies," said TCA President G. Lincoln McCurdy. "While elections inevitably change the composition of congressional caucuses, we are confident that the Turkey Caucus will exceed previous membership levels. The United States' close relationship with Turkey will continue to strengthen in the face of current global challenges as both countries are committed to pursuing their shared values."
TCA also recognizes the following three members of the Caucus who won Senate and Gubernatorial races:
• Rep. Christopher Murphy was elected to be Connecticut's newest U.S. Senator
• Rep. Mazie Hirono was elected to be Hawaii's newest U.S. Senator
• Rep. Mike Pence was elected Governor of Indiana
The Turkey Caucus is a bipartisan platform focusing on U.S.-Turkey relations and helping to ensure balanced dialogue on issues of importance to Turkish Americans.
