More Americans than ever before are becoming involved in grassroots politics since the 2016 election, whether attending town hall meetings, volunteering with local political parties or running for public office. Turkish Americans can be an integral part of this movement. In particular, women in the Turkish American community have demonstrated an interest in and passion for political engagement. They have the potential to become role models for the rest of the community through their political efforts.
Of the seven Turkish Americans who have been elected to U.S. public office (all at the local level), only one has been a woman. In an effort to add momentum to this movement and further engage Turkish American women throughout the country, the Turkish Coalition of America (TCA)* has created the Turkish American Women's Leadership Initiative.
Through this initiative, TCA is working with local Turkish American organizations and women’s groups to educate and encourage Turkish American women to run for elected office on the local, state, and federal levels; seek positions on governmental commissions; attend political conventions, meetings, and forums; and actively participate in political parties.
Please help spread the word about this leadership initiative among the women in your community!
*Please note: as a 501(c)3 charitable organization, TCA is prohibited by law from engaging in activities that could be construed as political campaigning. TCA cannot and does not donate funds to a political action committee or support any political candidate or group of candidates. With this initiative, TCA is not endorsing or supporting any candidate for any office.
