For the second year in a row, top Republican leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives met with Turkish American business and community leaders this week in New York to discuss U.S.-Turkey relations and Turkish American participation in the political process. The group, which included NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions of Texas, Deputy Chairman Greg Walden of Oregon, and Turkey Caucus Co-chair Rep. Virginia Foxx, highlighted the importance of Turkish Americans being in touch with their congressional representatives and educating elected officials about U.S.-Turkey relations.
The meeting was moderated by TCA President G. Lincoln McCurdy and organized by the four Turkish American nonpartisan political action committees in California, New Jersey, Texas and Washington D.C.
“This meeting with congressional leadership reflects the growing involvement of the community in public affairs,” said McCurdy. “As a result of this activity, the Congressional Caucus on U.S.–Turkey Relations and Turkish Americans now has 154 members.”
Present at the meeting was a representative from the Turkish American Business Association (TABA) based in Turkey. Additionally, the following Turkish American organizations were represented: Assembly of Turkish American Associations (ATAA), Federation of Turkish American Associations (FTAA), Turkish American Business Forum, Turkish American Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TACCI) and the Turkish Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB) Washington office.
