Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan remarked that an exceptionally positive dialogue has developed between Armenia and Turkey in recent years.

YEREVAN, September 29. /ARКА/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan remarked that an exceptionally positive dialogue has developed between Armenia and Turkey in recent years.

Addressing the UN General Assembly, Pashinyan highlighted that his discussions with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan occur regularly, and the level of trust continues to increase.

"I greatly appreciate this accomplishment and am assured that it will yield favorable outcomes in the near future, specifically the establishment of diplomatic relations and the complete reopening of the interstate border," stated the Armenian prime minister.

Since 1991, Armenia and Turkey have lacked diplomatic relations, and the state border has remained closed since 1993 due to Ankara's decision.

In December 2021, Armenia and Turkey designated envoys to facilitate the normalization of their relations: Vice Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, Ruben Rubinyan, and seasoned diplomat and former Turkish Ambassador to the United States, Serdar Kılıç.

On September 12, 2025, Rubinyan and Kılıç convened for their sixth meeting in Yerevan. They reached agreements, among other matters, to accelerate the execution of the agreement concerning land border crossings for third-country nationals and individuals holding diplomatic passports, to conduct essential technical studies for the restoration and operation of the Gyumri-Kars railway and power line, and to enhance the frequency of flights between the two nations.
