Baltimore Jewish Council Statement on Ataturk Airport Attack
June 29, 2016
The Baltimore Jewish Council (BJC) is saddened to learn of the atrocious attack that took place at Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport yesterday. This suicide attack took the lives of over 40 people and injured many more.
Our communities were celebrating just days ago, after the announcement of normalized relations between Turkey and Israel, two democratic nations with the ability to bring much needed stability to the Middle East region. This act of senseless violence only strengthens our drive to work together as two nations seeking peace in a region rife with turmoil.
Our thoughts are with our friends in the Turkish American community who are mourning friends and family lost to this attack, as well as those families mourning overseas. We hope that the Turkish authorities investigating this situation can bring justice against those perpetrating these acts of violence.
