Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan today to thank Turkey for coming to Israel’s aid, as the country is trying to combat the worst wildfire in its history.
According to the Turkish Prime Ministry’s office, Netanyahu said that he was grateful for the rapid and meaningful support the Turkish people had lent to Israel. He added that he and all Israelis were watching the Turkish planes’ efforts to extinguish the fires. Erdogan, in turn, pledged Turkey’s continued support in fighting the fire and treating the wounded and expressed his and the Turkish nation’s condolences for the 42 individuals who have lost their lives.
Turkey rushed to send two fire-fighting planes and ten personnel to Israel on Friday and reportedly will be undertaking the coordination of the NATO assistance effort. The Turkish planes arrived at the Ramat David military base this morning, where Prime Minister Netanyahu boarded one of the planes and thanked the Turkish firefighters.
