Washington, DC - On Thursday, October 9, the Turkish Coalition of America hosted a reception for Gov. Bill Richardson (D-NM) and the leaders of the nation's most prominent Hispanic organizations.
"TCA has a long history of working with Latino organizations to promote unity between cultures," said Lincoln McCurdy, President of TCA. McCurdy went on to express his hope for future cooperation with the all of these organizations: "TCA hopes that working with these organizations will help to advance all of our interests, particularly our scholarship program for Hispanic students."
TCA provides scholarships for 100 minority students, including Latinos, who opt to do their study abroad program in Turkey. More information about this program can be found here
At the event, Gov. Richardson expressed his thanks to TCA for sponsoring the event, and hope that the US and Turkey would continue to be strong allies.
The event was attended by White House and Congressional staff members as well as over 60 representatives of the leading Hispanic organizations in Washington, DC including: The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, the Hispanic College Fund, ASPIRA, Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute, League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), Democracy in America, National Hispanic Environmental Council, Mexican Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF), National Association Hispanic Publishers, National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO), and many others.
