TCA Hosts Congressional Visits for TUSIAD Delegation

On December 4th, TCA organized two meetings with  the Turkish Industry and Business Association (TUSIAD) delegation led by Ms. Umit Boyner, which visited Washington D.C. for talks on U.S.-Turkey relations. The delegation met with members of the Europe and Eurasia Subcommittee of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and later attended a reception hosted by TCA and Congresswoman Virginia Foxx, Co-Chair of the Turkey Caucus. TCA President meets with TABA, TUSIAD and DEIK Board Members in Istanbul

TCA President G. Lincoln McCurdy met with the board members of the Turkish American Business Association (TABA), Turkish Industry and Business Association (TUSIAD) and the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEiK) in Istanbul on December 16-17. McCurdy discussed U.S. - Turkey relations and TCA programs with the board members of the respective organizations.

TCA Leads Native American Business Exploration Trip to Istanbul

TCA led a group of Native American representatives and tribal attorneys to Istanbul on a Business Exploration Trip from December 16-20, 2012.  The trip was designed to focus on Turkey's leather and textile industries for mutually beneficial business development opportunities with Indian Country. The delegation paid a visit to DESA, Orjin and Cem Kerem leather manufacturers and met with representatives from the textile industry and Koc Holding's RAM Foreign Trade Company. The participants of the Exploration Trip also discussed joint venture opportunities with Turkish Exporters' Assembly representatives prior to their departure.

TCA Sponsors Canadian-Turkish Youth Congress

For the fourth consecutive year, TCA will sponsor the "Sixth Annual Turkish Canadian Youth Congress" organized by the Council of Turkish Canadians scheduled to take place on January 11-13, 2012 in Halifax-Nova Scotia. TCA President G. Lincoln McCurdy and TCA Project Manager, Mrs. JoEllen Byrnes will speak at the event.

Bahcesehir University's American Studies program to visit Washington

Approximately 20 graduate students from the American Studies program at Bahcesehir University in Istanbul will be visiting Washington, D.C. in late January. On January 24th the TCA will host the students at its D.C. office and will also arrange for visits to Capitol Hill and Congressional offices during their stay.

TCA Awards Study Abroad Scholarships to American Minority Students

In December, TCA awarded 12 Study Abroad scholarships to students of African American, Hispanic American and Native American heritage. Of the scholarships awarded, ten went to students studying abroad in Turkey for a semester. The other two recipients received an award to embark on study tours organized by their universities. Students who received TCA scholarships in December come from universities in Florida, New York, Missouri, Ohio, California, Iowa, Texas, Michigan and Washington, DC. With the awards disseminated in December, the number of TCA Study Abroad in Turkey Scholarships awarded to African American, Hispanic American and Native American students has reached 68 in 2012, bringing the total number of recipients to 249 since the program's inception in 2008.
