Turkey Caucus Reaches Record 160 Members

At the end of the 114th Congress, membership in the Congressional Caucus on U.S.-Turkey Relations and Turkish Americans reached a record 160 members. This surpasses the previous record of 157 members, which was achieved in 2012 during the 112th Congress. The Congressional Turkey Caucus is one of the largest bilateral caucuses in Congress. Currently, the Turkey Caucus is represented in 43 out of the 50 states and all six of the U.S. territories. The Turkey Caucus is a bi-partisan platform for members of Congress to focus on U.S.-Turkey relations and issues that concern Turkish Americans.

TCA Syrian Refugee Campaign Concludes

As of December 2016, the Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) has distributed $100,000 in humanitarian grants to Syrian refugees in Turkey, marking the conclusion of TCA’s Syrian Refugee Matching Campaign launched in the summer of 2016. Humanitarian grants were given to fund specific project requests from local organizations working directly with refugees on the ground in Turkey including: Refugee Volunteers of Izmir (ReVi), Butun Cocuklar Bizim Dernegi (All Children Are Ours Foundation), and Sureli Destek (Periodic Support).

TCA President Meets with Turkish Americans in Denver

On December 21, TCA President G. Lincoln McCurdy travelled to Denver, Colorado where members of the Turkish American Cultural Society of Colorado (TACSCO) met with Congressman Jared Polis (D-CO/2nd), a member of the Congressional Turkey Caucus, to discuss U.S.-Turkey relations and Colorado’s Turkish American community.

TCA Hosts Holiday Open House

On December 12, TCA hosted a holiday open house at its headquarters in Washington, which featured artwork from TCA’s Native American & Turkish Contemporary Art Exhibition. Members of the Turkish American community and friends of Turkey gathered to celebrate the holiday season and the new year.

TCA President Travels to Seattle

On December 19, TCA President G. Lincoln McCurdy travelled to Seattle, Washington where he met with members of the Turkish American Cultural Association of Washington (TACAWA) for a roundtable discussion on U.S.-Turkey relations and the congressional delegation from the state of Washington.

TCA Meets with Members of Congress

In December, TCA President G. Lincoln McCurdy and staff attended post-election events and met with with Congressional Turkey Caucus members Reps. Brenda Lawrence (D-MI/14th), Don Beyer (D-VA/8th), Adam Kinzinger (R-IL/16th), Duncan Hunter (R-CA/50th), Greg Meeks (D-NY/5th), G.K. Butterfield (D-NC/1st), William Lacy Clay (D-MO/1st), Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX/30th), and Stacey Plaskett (D-VI/AL) as well as Reps. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ/12th) and John Garamendi (D-CA/3rd). They also spoke with Senator-elect Todd Young (R) of Indiana who is currently a Representative of the 9th district of Indiana and member of the Turkey Caucus.
