TCA Commemorates the 59th Anniversary of Korean War Armistice Day

On July 26, TCA organized an event entitled "On the Eve of the Korean War Armistice Day" to honor the bravery of those who served and Turkish-American camaraderie during the conflict. The event featured two Korean War veterans Al Ortiz (MSG, U.S. Army, 45th Infantry Division) and William E. Alli (Sgt, U.S. Marine Corps, 1st Marine Division), who shared their experiences of the war and discussed its enduring relevance to this day. For more information on this event click here.

TCA-sponsored Congressional Delegation Set to Travel to Bosnia and Turkey

12 senior Congressional staffers will participate in a TCA congressional delegation to Turkey and Bosnia on August 3-12. This marks the second time a TCA congressional delegation will visit Bosnia and the first time the group will consist of both House and Senate staff. Participants will visit Mostar and Sarajevo in Bosnia; then travel to Istanbul, Ankara, and Patara in Turkey. In addition to meetings with government officials, delegates will meet with various civil society leaders in both countries. With this 15th delegation, TCA will have taken 145 Members of Congress and staffers to Turkey and its surrounding region.

TCA Awards Study Abroad Scholarships to American Minority Students

Study Abroad in Turkey Scholarship program continued to expand with five new scholarships granted to Hispanic and African American college students from University of Arizona, De Pauw, George Washington, Valdosta and Duke University. The students will be studying at Bogazici, Yeditepe and Koc Universities. TCA also provided a $2,000 scholarship to a Bosnian American student from Syracuse University in cooperation with the Advisory Council for Bosnia and Herzegovina. Since 2008, TCA has awarded 237 Study Abroad in Turkey Scholarships to American minority students.

TCA Hosts 2012 Washington Summer Internship Program Orientation Event

20 Turkish American college and graduate students were selected to participate in TCA's annual Washington Summer Internship Program this year. The students attended an orientation session at the TCA Washington offices on July 11th. This full-day event was comprised of panels featuring representatives from the State Department, Turkish Embassy and the Heritage Foundation. Also, various members of the Turkish Press based in Washington D.C. and Turkish American community leaders including Gunay Evinch, past President of ATAA, and TCA's President Lincoln G. McCurdy, as well as Research Fellow Sevin Elekdag spoke at the event.

TCA Releases 2011 Annual Report

The 2011 Annual Report of TCA is now available online. The Report provides for an overview of the various activities, programs, as well as grants of TCA in 2011, which was a year of significant growth. The TCA Annual Report may be viewed here.
